The existence of tourist visits in samboja, indonesia: a prediction
Maria, Siti
Lestari, Dirga
Darma, Dio Caisar
Tourist visits; beaches; Samboja; regression
In the last few decades, tourism communities have continued to improve to develop destination attributes. The interest of tourists is certainly a reference that contains hope and reality after they visit a destination. Samboja is one area that has the most tourist destinations, both at the level of Kutai Kartanegara Regency and East Kalimantan Province (Indonesia). However, their natural destinations as beaches are not yet a priority for the local community, so their income from their development is still minimal. Through a semi-structured survey approach to 185 respondents (visitors) in four predetermined destinations, we dig deeper into the extent of the predictions of the existence of tourist visits (ETV) with several influencing variables. Regression estimates prove that tourist income, travel costs, and travel time have had a significant impact on ETV. From a similar test, the cost of travel to other attractions and facilities actually has an insignificant effect on ETV. The empirical evidence from this study is likely to be the right policy and can be applied by the tourism development community there.

Reflecting on Hospitality Students’ Cognitive Diversity Impact on Service Quality and Organizational Performance Standards: A Case-Study in Cy Seasonal Hotels
Anastasiou, Michael
Service Quality Standard; Cognitive Diversity Impact; deep-level workforce diversity
This study examines the impact of hospitality students’ cognitive diversity style on service quality and performance standards in seasonal hotels. A survey research method approach was implemented through a quantitative examination of a purposeful sample, collected from three-, four-, and five-star seasonal hotels in Cyprus. The survey was administered face-to-face to 316 students and 93 managers. For hypotheses testing, the Cognitive Style Inventory was adapted. Study results reveal students’ educational preparedness, professional reliability, and the positive impact of their cognitive diversity style on service quality and organizational performance standards in seasonal hotels. While students offer a diversified pool of potential candidates to successfully fulfil qualified and skilful required vacancies, a twofold requirement emerges. First is the introversion requirement related to the curriculum design of hospitality educational institutions. Second is the extroversion requirement, which sees the responsibility of seasonal hotel managers, as future employers, to be linked and guided on students’ cognitive style development via an intuitive collaboration with local hospitality educational institutions.

Sustainable tourism is intensely dependent on the host community's support, view, and contribution to tourism programs; this safeguards the community and diminishes any adverse effects that can harm the environment and culture. However, literature is scarce about comparing the positive and negative effects of tourism. Thus, this paper focuses on the following objectives: Determine the positive and negative effects of tourism and; Test the significant difference between the positive and negative responses. The study gathered 93 responses from Doot Poktoy residents'. It utilized the descriptive approach, with questionnaires indicating the agreement level in the values of tourism development: economic, socio-cultural, and environmental. The results revealed that the respondents had experienced both negative and positive effects of tourism and that they have a more negative view of tourism than a positive one.

THE ROLE OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT IN REALIZING SUSTAINABLE MARINE TOURISM IN PEMUTERAN VILLAGE GEROKGAK SUB DISTRICT BULELENG BALI PROVINCE
Sanjiwani, Ni Made Gandhi
The Role of Local Government; Sustainable Marine Tourism; Partial Least Square (Path Modelling); Pemuteran Village
This paper aims to study the role of local government in realizing sustainable marine tourism. Pemuteran Village is one of the best practices of sustainable marine tourism in the developing world. Three types of government roles were studied, namely: regulator, facilitator, and of executor.. These roles were positioned as exogenous latent variables in a causal relationship with sustainable marine tourism in the village. Sustainability is measured through reflective constructs, i.e. economic benefit, socio-cultural benefit, and environmental benefit felt by the local community of Pemuteran Village. The data were collected from 60 respondents, consisting of community leaders, non-governmental organizations, and tourism industry stakeholders in Pemuteran Village. Then, questionnaires were analyzed by structural equation modelling—partial least square (path modelling). The results show that the government roles did not have a significant effect on marine tourism sustainability. However, the role of local government and the existence of marine tourism sustainability were reflected significantly in its three constructs where the most represented construct in this relationship respectively are the role of facilitator and the environmental benefit. The most important finding in this research is that the role of local government was not only measured by regulator and facilitator roles, as in previous research, but includes analysis of the executor role. which proved significant in structural model evaluationone of the best practices of sustainable marine tourism — – partial least square (path modelling). The results show that the government roles did not have aprove significantly aeffect on marine tourism sustainability. RETHINKING THE THEORY OF TOURISM: WHAT IS TOURISM SYSTEM IN THEORETICAL AND EMPIRICAL PERSPECTIVE?
Wiweka, Kadek
Arcana, Komang Trisna Pratiwi
Tourism system;Model and Framework;Theory building;Theoretical and Empirical perspective
Tourism within the practical scope has gone beyond the development of tourism theory itself. Considering the importance of theory as a foundation for knowledge and understanding of a phenomenon, especially in the scope of tourism. Therefore this study attempts to fill the gap between the tourism theory that has been built with the latest empirical facts. In developing tourism theory, this research used the creation of theory approach. Where in the process, the creation of theory is more inductive (or can be regarded as a qualitative approach). The result of this research is that tourism as a system consists of two kinds of sub-system that is internal and external sub-system. The internal sub-system is the interaction between person or the tourist termed as the tourist demand, from the tourist generating region and during a trip to a destination called the tourism supply, linked by the intermediaries elements, to return to its original territory. While external sub-system consists of international trade factors, safety and security factors, natural or climate factors, social-cultural factors, technological factors, economic or finance factors, political factors, demographic, and geographical factors. The relationship between the internal and external sub-systems not only determined the existence of tourism, but otherwise the existence of tourism can also affect the two sub-systems (internal and external). The interesting thing about this research is that the phenomenon of tourism can be ‘limited’ by its own point of view which is described through a comprehensive and integrated system.

In terms of accessibility, the road conditions of both ecotourism are damaged and rocky and there is no public transportation. The facilities of the infrastructure in both ecotourism are not yet complete. The obstacles in Puncak Damar Ecotourism are (1) damaged road conditions, (2) no clean water, (3) no food stall that operate, (4) relations between managers. In Tanjung Duriat there obstacles are: (1) damaged road conditions, (2) no electricity system, (3) relations between managers. Both of these ecotourism are still not feasible for tourist destinations. It is because there are still many attractions that cannot support tourism activities at Puncak Damar and Tanjung Duriat Ecotourism objects.

One of the tourism sectors is special interest tourism, especially in rural areas. The involvement of local community participation plays an important role in the development and preservation of the environment and local resources. However, most of them work as farmers, of course they lack knowledge and experience in the field of tourism. So that in involving the community it is necessary to do training first. This study aims to analyze the form of local community involvement in Pengotan Village by using the theory of participation and the function of human resources. This research was conducted by collecting qualitative data. Data obtained from interviews and observations. After the data was obtained, the researchers analyzed the data using Miles and Huberman. The results of this study found that the Pengotan Village Community involved in Baliwoso participated actively in a top-down or bottom-up manner, starting from managerial functions to the operational functions of Upadesa Baliwoso. This provides a boost to employment opportunities or additional income by working to meet the operational needs of tourists visiting Baliwoso.

Pentahelix model; Unesco Heritage; Sawahlunto; Pentahelix actors
The coal mine closures have turned Sawahlunto into an idle city. By integrating the post-mining sites landscape and the Dutch colonial architecture heritage, Sawahlunto becomes a city of a kind. Therefore, the local government and the legislature (DPRD) as well as other stakeholders created a vision for Sawahlunto as a “A Cultural Tourism Mining City” in 2020, set in Local Government Regulation (PERDA) No 2 of 2001. The year 2020 was set as a target to motivate the local government and stakeholders to achieve the vision. As a matter of fact, Sawahlunto has been included as a World Heritage site by UNESCO as of 2019. This research aims to understand the role of stakeholders in developing and rebranding Sawahlunto, by using the Pentahelix model. This research uses a qualitative method along with the case study approach as well as utilizing interviews, observations and archival study as the types of research methodology. Finally, the result of this research shows that the stakeholders carry out their roles well and fully support the vision of Sawahlunto city.

Laba, I Nengah
essay writing, effectiveness, cycle
This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of developing students’ essay writing about tourism topics through word clustering technique. The subjects under study were students sitting on semester 6 at Sekolah Tinggi Pariwisata Bali Internasional (International Bali Institute of Tourism). This classroom action research (CAR) was basically triggered by the fact that the subjects under study have still low capability in English essay writing about Tourism Topics. This study made use of pre-test or initial reflection (IR) and post-test research design using descriptive analysis. There were two cycles in this CAR and each cycle consists of four successive sessions. The IR was intended to establish the real pre-existing English essay writing capability of the subject under study. The Mean of the Pre-test or IR score obtained by the subjects under study was 3.63. The Mean of the Post-test or R scores both in Cycle I and in Cycle II showed an increasing figure which is 4.12 in S1, 5.06 in S2, 5.78 in S3, 6.34 in S4, 6.76 in S5, 7.14 in S6, 7.44 in S7 and 7.82 in S8. These figures showed that the Mean of the Post-test or R scores in each session was much higher than the Mean of Pre-test or IR in essay writing. The data analysis further led to the computation of the Grand Mean score for both Cycles I and Cycle II. The computation of the Grand Mean resulted in Cycle I (XI) was 5.32. The computation of the Grand Mean resulted in Cycle II was 7.29. The difference Mean of Cycle I and cycle II is 1.97 (XII – XI = 7.29 – 5.32 = 1.97). These research findings revealed that developing students’ essay writing about the tourism topics through word clustering technique was very effective.

Food waste, generation Z, food and beverage industry, Tangerang
With resources becoming scarcer, waste of food is something to be avoided. Food waste must be minimized by using various ways to avoid waste in terms of food loss and food waste. In Indonesia itself, without realizing it, the issue of leftover food becomes very big. According to the Head of Representative of the United Nations Food Agency (FAO), Mark Smulders, of the approximately 1.3 trillion tons of food that was lost or wasted, Indonesia contributed around 13 million tons of food waste (food loss and food waste). This study will explore Generation Z's level of awareness of leftover food in Indonesia, especially in the Tangerang and surrounding areas. This research is exploratory in nature. The method is used to research something (which attracts attention) that is not yet known, not understood, or not well recognized. The date is collected using questionnaire that were distributed to respondents, namely Generation Z in Tangerang and its surrounding areas. From the results of data processing and tests carried out in this study, it can be concluded that the current awareness of Generation Z on the issue of leftover food must be raised, because the issue of leftover food itself is one of the issues of environmental preservation. The level of awareness of the issue of leftover food from Generation Z as the next generation must be increased, because only less than half of respondents are aware of this issue of leftovers.

Covid-19 air travel: do intervention measures influence intent?
Montalbo, Kyle Calapre
Intervention implementation; COVID-19 traveler behavior; aviation tourism; transport sustainability
Similar to the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2002, safety measures in air travel are placed to combat the spread of COVID-19. With developing countries, like the Philippines, lagging behind post-pandemic aviation recovery, just how influential are these intervention measures in bringing back travellers to the skies? This research measured the passengers’ intent to return to air travel and analyzed the respondents’ assessment of the implementation of safety measures in air travel during the COVID-19 pandemic. The correlation of both variables was explored using Pearson Correlation Coefficient. The data were from a self-administered survey questionnaire disseminated to air travellers to and from Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA), Philippines during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results show that the safety protocols were far from being exceptionally implemented. The study further revealed the respondents’ uncertainty on returning to air travel due to the COVID-19 crisis regardless of the safety measures in place. Even with the high uncertainty, however, the respondents’ assessment of the implementation of protocols was found to be highly associated with the respondents’ intention to return to air travel. The pre-departure safety protocols had the highest association compared to in-flight and arrival protocols.
